A brief respite for Tammy as the two sets of twins guzzle their juice. From left: Keyah, Eric, Erykah, Tammy, and Kylah.
Tammy herds the twins away from the front door. They were attempting to go outside and join their "Papaw" as he was mowing the grass.
Story time with Keyah is interrupted by Eric. Interruptions like these are commonplace throughout the day for Tammy.
As a way to contribute to her grandchildren's development, Tammy often plays games and reads them stories. At present, she is dancing.
Tammy relaxes for a moment while the twins and Kaylah play in the next room. Her 'Hot Stuff' slippers and anklet hint at her past life - empty nester and former model.
With her grandchildren, Tammy is never left alone, not even when in the bathroom. Here, Tammy prepares the children for the evening's bath.
Typically the sole caretaker of her grandchildren, Tammy is forced to bathe the younger twins together. Before she took on this role, the children hated baths. Now they jump up and down with glee at the prospect of their bath.
Tammy pats granddaughter Erykah on the head as she puts the twins to bed. Keyah and Kylah are settled to her right, with Eric off screen in another bed. Before Tammy began taking care of her grandchildren, all four children slept in the same bed. Tammy is working on having the children sleep in separate spaces, but it is a gradual process that comes with lots of crying.
The picture stories were limited to 8 images. If I could have done a few more, I would have included these three:
Sippy cup lids wait for the next meal. In the background, granddaughter Keya hugs Tammy's legs as she attempts to clean the kitchen.
Chaos reigns at Tammy's feet during play time. Eric fiddles with some legos as Tammy changes his sister's diaper.
Erykah wriggles during her nightly tooth brushing. Until the 4 children are older, every night will be a repeat of this ritual.
